Custom Web Addresses For Essentials Sites

Custom Web Addresses For Essentials Sites Now you can also customize your site’s web address along with its theme. Any myfamily.com Essentials Site allows you to change the URL of the site to something unique, personal and much more convenient. This will also make your Essentials Site easier for you and your members to link to.

New Three-Pane Power Uploader

New Three-Pane Power Uploader The Power Uploader now has a new three-pane view. This new layout allows you to navigate the folders on your computer, view the image files in each of these folders, and then drag-and-drop the images you want to add into the upload window. Adding images is now even easier because you don’t need to switch back and forth between your computer’s desktop and myfamily.com.

Sort Your Content By Title

Sort Your Content By Title In addition to being able to sort your site content by the date it was added or by the member who added it, you can now also sort by title. This is helpful if you are looking for a specific item or if you want your content to appear in alphabetical order.

The sort by title feature is available in the What’s New, Search, Photos, Albums, Videos, Discussions and Photo Stories sections of your site.

Membership Request Auto-Accept

Membership Request Auto-Accept If you have a Public Page for your myfamily.com site where people can ‘Request Membership’ to join, you can now choose to have all these requests auto-accepted instead of manually approving them. This new option is found on the Public Page Settings page.

Other Enhancements & Fixes

• If the last photo within an album is deleted from your site, that album will now also be deleted.

• The character limit of your site’s Welcome Message has been increased from 1,000 to 2,000.

• Fixed a bug that was not allowing users to add photos to an existing album with the ‘Add More Photos’ feature.

• Implemented a new site URL structure.

• When creating an album, the default name of that album has been changed from ‘Untitled Album’ to ‘<Your Username>’s Album’ for better organization.

• Fixed a bug that caused some Discussions to appear in the incorrect sections when sorting by Date Added and Member Name.

  1. thank you so much for adding more themes and sort photos by title….also the three pane uploader!!!!

  2. Hi,

I really love the upgrades that you have been making. I have two sites; one for my family and one for our co-op school. We use free sites for both.

Even though both are free sites, I truly would like to see some of the new Site Themes Added to the free side. It would be nice to have seasonal changes and I really like the school theme. Please consider allowing free sites to use more of the themes. Since we can not use the “creat” your own theme option, we would appreciate a few more pre-built themes. It will keep our members excited to “check-in”.

Thanks in advance for this great family friendly website option!

    Laura

  3. I like the new feature that allows me to customize the web address. nice job!

I would wish we had an additional field for each contact that allows for some descriptive information about the person. In my case everyone doesn’t necessarily know who everyone is, having a descriptor field to add lineage info and other things would be a fantastic vale-add.

  4. I am not impressed at all with the new Migrated site.

I hope that the bugs get worked out soon!!

  5. 2nd on the motion for a “descriptor field” for contacts/members directory. Really needed feature. Also need to be able to sort members/contacts by Lastname, Firstname.

And I would really like to see a way to add comments or discussions to Events and attach event related information such as maps, hotel lists, gift suggestions, etc.

  6. I use both versions, the migrated site for a family group and the original for a work group bulletin board. I much prefer the functionality of the original version. I know that you are investing time in the migration project but if you could just add a few more color choices to the original as the Beta colors are getting so boring. Once the admin options of version 1 are added to version 2, I might consider conversion.

  7. I tried to change to a new Free theme, but now it only covers the edges of my page and not the whole background…can I get a color to cover the entire background without having to pay for the upgrade?

  8. I’ve just tried a new Free theme and I think you’ll find that it does cover the whole background. When you switch from the Home page to, say, the What’s New page, you will see it draw the whole background in the new color, then write the What’s New in white on top.

What you are asking for is the ability to change the ‘contents’ colors which get written on top of the background. At present you need a custom theme to do that. i.e. a paid upgrade.

But you never know, MyFamily might decide to give more options to encourage use of the free sites. ;)

  9. Love your site it is very informative am going to research the other posts to see what else I can learn, cheers! and keep up the great work!

  10. I am new with being an administrator on my family’s site. My mother started it but she passed away in June. My mom did such a great job updating the themes of the front page. Any suggestions on where I should start to lean about how to get new themes? We are on the original my family site and I don’t see where I can change to a new theme. I have so much to learn about updating the site.

    Thanks.

  11. We’ve been watching version 2.0, but there has never been any clue as to when recipes will be included. This is a major part of our families interaction online, and we will not be moving to 2.0 until the recipes can be migrated and presented at least as well as on the original site.

We do like the clean look and such. Please keep seniors and folks with relatively few computer skills in mind as you develop the new site. This is certainly a concern of ours.

    Greg

  12. Are other people having trouble with “What’s New” on Version 2.0? We have been trying to switch to V2 for a couple of months but What’s New just does’t work. Things we view remain tagged as “New” and when you click on “New” it eliminates everything – even those items tagged in red as “New”. Can’t seem to get management to acknowledge that this problem exists. Three of my family in different states with different computers are experiencing the same thing. We love the new features of V2 but we’ve gone back to the orginal until What’s New is fixed on V2.

  13. We have recognized the issue with “NEW” on What’s New. We are going to revamp that feature altogether, and when we do, will address that issue. Cheers!

  14. I consider the new changes to MyFamily a big disappointment. I have a Wide 22″ Monitor and the pictures are so small that they are almost a waste of effort. I can’t imagine how anyone with a 17 or 19 inch monitor will be able to see them without using a magnifying glass. Yes they are set on large size!

  15. Cindy and BillK, I’m really disappointed too, that the background just shows a tiny bit on the edges of each page. Bill, this is also the case on the upgraded sites…custom themes does not correct the problem. Many people asked about this but, apparently, were stuck with nothing for our background except the plain ole color we chose. :(
